The Dartmouth Conference in the summer of 1956 is often regarded as the birthplace of artificial intelligence as a field of study. Organized by John McCarthy, Marvin Minsky, Nathaniel Rochester, and Claude Shannon, this event brought together leading researchers to discuss the possibility of creating ’thinking machines.’ It was at this conference that the term ‘artificial intelligence’ was coined.
